Associate Professor Mark Kirkland

Associate Professor Mark Kirkland is a haematologist, with 20 years of medical experience. He received his inital training and PhD at Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia. He also undertook postdoctoral research at the Leukaemia Research Unit at Hammersmith Hospital, London. Mark is currently the Director of the Douglas Hocking Research Institute, and also a Director of PathCare Consulting Pathologists.

Mark has previously held both executive management and clinical positions at a number of institutions and organisations. He was previously the Chief of Service for Geelong Hospital Pathology Service, where he was responsible for management, budgeting and strategic planning.

He has also held the roles of Regional Transfusion Officer and Medical Director of Research for the Australian Red Cross Blood Service. In this role, Associate Professor Kirkland was responsible for budget management, donor recruitment and quality systems.

Mark has also held the role of Director of Haematology and Blood Bank at Geelong Hospital Pathology Service. Mark has worked with AHA on a number of projects including:
