AHA was recently appointed by the Department of Human Services (DHS) to undertake an evaluation of the Demonstration Project for the Independent Monitoring of disability service providers.
Service provider compliance with the Disability Standards is a legislative requirement; the independent monitoring program must be able to verify compliance with these standards.
DHS has joined with JAS-ANZ (Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand) to develop the independent monitoring program. JAS-ANZ is a government appointed body who is responsible for accrediting conformity assessment bodies (CABs).
The demonstration project will be used to trial and refine the systems and processes being developed jointly between JAS-ANZ and DHS. AHA’s role is to evaluate the demonstration project.
Up to 14 disability service providers in the Barwon South Western (BSW) Region of DHS will participate in the project along with DHS direct service outlets in BSW.
Several CABs will be used to complete the certification process, as detailed in the Scheme Rules developed by JAS-ANZ.
The overall objective of the evaluation is to confirm the effectiveness and adequacy of processes, systems and procedures in verifying disability service provider’s compliance with the Standards and supporting implementation of independent monitoring.
The report is available on the
