This 2006 scoping study, for the Department of Human Services (DHS), assessed the feasibility and developed an implementation plan for a Victorian service delivery model for the colonoscopy services component of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP).
An effective and efficient model for the delivery of follow-up colonoscopy services in Victoria was vital to the success of the National program. The roll-out date for the national program meant that Victoria required a colonoscopy service delivery model that met immediate needs and ensured smooth transition, fitting with Victoria’s service model for the delivery of cancer services through Integrated Cancer Services in metropolitan and regional areas, and which was able to be further developed and phased as the national program was rolled out.
This scoping study informed decisions about the appropriate service delivery model and approaches for Victoria, identified key issues and concerns, and set directions for further service model development and implementation.
