The Victoria Police
You are not alone campaign, aims to build trusting relationships between police and senior Victorians.
Some senior Victorians feel as if there is no one to turn to when they are a victim of a crime or when they are placed in a situation where they feel at-risk, threatened or unsafe.
This is particularly true for those who feel disengaged from the wider community and do not actively socialise.
You are not alone hopes to get elderly people to consider times when they feel threatened, at-risk or unsafe and determine whether they have in fact been a victim of crime.
The campaign hopes that this will encourage seniors to report the crime of elder abuse.
Elder abuse is any act which causes harm to older people that is carried out by someone they know and trust, such as family or friends. Elder abuse can be financial, emotional or physical including mistreatment and neglect.
A victim of elder abuse can be very confused about the intentions of the perpetrator and can often overlook their actions or not consider the abuse as a crime.
You are not alone hopes to raise community awareness of elder abuse and encourage Victorians to take action for senior Victorians in their community who may be victims of crime.
The You are not alone campaign will be launched in the first week of October during Seniors Week.
