National Suicide Prevention Program (NSPP) - Minimum Data Set (MDS) Collection

The NSPP provides funding totaling approximately $25 million annually to national and local projects directly aimed at reducing suicides.  Funded activities encompass:

  • Community-based projects which impact on issues at a local level
  • National investment which largely takes a population health approach and supports infrastructure and research.

AHA evaluated the NSPP and selected projects from the Taking Action to Tackle Suicide (TATS) package, for the seven-year period from 2006-07 to 2012-13.  This work on behalf of the Commonwealth Department of Health, included development of a framework for ongoing NSPP evaluation, and development and implementation of a minimum data set (MDS) to collect and analyse data from NSPP funded projects.

Following the evaluation, AHA was engaged by the Department to continue to collect, analyse and report MDS data submitted by funded projects until 2016.  AHA’s role includes providing guidance and support for projects to meet their MDS reporting obligations.
