AHA developed, promoted and delivered 45 information sessions in rural, regional and metropolitan locations across Victoria

The Victorian Government developed Practice Guidelines for health services and community agencies for the prevention of elder abuse (With Respect to Age – 2009).

This Guide defines elder abuse as ‘Any act occurring within a relationship where there is an implication of trust, which results in harm to an older person’.

The Guide aims to provide service providers with the necessary skills and tools to assess and identify incidents of abuse or suspicions of abuse and to develop and implement care plans to address any identified issues. It contains information about different types of elder abuse; questions to assess and identify abuse; and a range of management strategies and resources.

AHA developed and presented information sessions based on the Guide.  The information sessions introduced the Guide in the context of the Victorian Government strategy, to assist people to understand expectations around how the guide should be used and to encourage and facilitate its use.

Abuse involving older people is a complex social problem which requires careful and considered responses
