This national project of Health Program Grants evaluated cancer patients access to radiation oncology services nationally. The project involved the analysis of current services, costs and funding across Australia and developing funding options, policies and mechanisms to improve service delivery and access and to more fairly compensate service providers.
It also entailed consultation with the Commonwealth, States and service providers. Detailed service and cost data was obtain from all providers, States and the HIC, to enable a comprehensive analysis to be undertaken and improved funding mechanisms developed. All service and funding options were assessed and specific recommendations for implementation were also made.
