AHA was contracted by the National Blood Authority to investigate, analyse and report on demand management processes/ models/ frameworks used in the public sector that operate in environments which are similar in structure and outcome to those of the blood sector. The investigation included processes/ models/ frameworks that apply to the management of Pharmaceuticals, Diagnostic Imaging and Pathology services, as well as the use of Health Literacy strategies and demand management strategies in public hospital settings.

The analysis of these different scenarios was used to produce a set of findings for the Authority on options for effecting change in the blood sector, which could lead to decreased demand for blood and blood products.
