AHA was engaged by the Australian Government to review aspects of the 'Clinical redesign of Tasmania's health and hospital system'. The redesign strategy is part of the Tasmanian Health Assistance Package (THAP) funded by the Australian Government.

AHA’s work comprised:

  • Analysis of changes to the Tasmanian health system since 2009
  • Consultation with the Tasmanian Renal Clinicians Network (TRCN)
  • Evaluation of the implementation of the Tasmanian State Plan for Renal Services 2010-2020 (the Plan)
  • Comparative assessment of staff and service productivity and efficiency, against international benchmarks
  • Review of projections in relation to renal services, as put forward in the Plan.
  • Cost-benefit analysis of the TRCN business proposal and business cases put to the Commission, including recommendations about the appropriateness of each business case
  • Providing comprehensive reports on the above matters.
Tasmania’s three renal units provide care for people with chronic renal failure and/or kidney disease, for people undergoing dialysis and for kidney transplant patients.
