The Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) program is an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) that provides counselling, family tracing and reunion support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities (prioritising members of the Stolen Generations).

AHA was appointed by the Substance Misuse and Indigenous Wellbeing Branch of DoHA to undertake a review of the SEWB Workforce Training and Development Program. The Workforce Training and Development program includes Workforce Support Units and Indigenous Registered Training Organisations across Australia. The program aims to ensure that the needs of Stolen Generations are effectively addressed, by ensuring that services are staffed by appropriately qualified and skilled workers.

The review was conducted between April and June 2012 and included:

  • A training needs analysis
  • Training availability scan
  • Consultation with Link Up and SEWB counselling service providers and the department.
